• Pathophysiology
    • Gluteus medius/minimus tendinopathy (degeneration/tear) at insertion.
    • Note: True bursitis is rare; “Trochanteric Bursitis” is an outdated term.
  • Clinical Presentation
    • Lateral hip pain worsened by:
      • Lying on the affected side (sleep disturbance).
      • Weight-bearing/climbing stairs.
    • PE: Point tenderness over Greater Trochanter.
    • Key Differentiator: Hip range of motion (internal/external rotation) is preserves/pain-free (unlike OA).
  • Differential Diagnosis
    • Hip Osteoarthritis: Groin pain + ↓ Internal Rotation.
    • Meralgia Paresthetica: Lateral thigh paresthesia/numbness only (sensory nerve compression).
  • Management
    • Dx: Clinical (X-ray rules out bony pathology).
    • Tx: NSAIDs, Activity modification, Physical Therapy, Steroid injection (refractory).
